The British summer at its best greeted the players from far and wide when they arrived for the 2006 Championship. With the fairways running a long way and good receptive greens the course was a golfers dream for all levels of player.

Any nerves from the many new members playing with us were certainly put at ease by the jovial welcome from our starter who kept everyone amused with a continual banter of jokes, providing you could understand his very broad Brum accent.

Patshull Parks’ unique layout was challenging from the very first shot where those unlucky enough to slice the ball on the first tee found it bouncing off the clubhouse roof or landing out of bounds. Numerous very large and mature trees lined the course and certainly required some careful play to avoid dropping shots and losing the odd ball or two. Did I mention the huge fishing lake, (complete with fishermen) that had to be crossed!!!!! Yes if your game got too bad you could always hire a boat and go out to catch your tea.

After the first round, tales of missed birdie putts, lost balls and general “if only”ies echoed around the bar. After an excellent meal in excellent company players went to bed to dream of a better day to come!!

Day two dawned to yet another cloudless sky (Two days in a row!!!! Is this really England?) Everyone arrived on the tee scrubbed clean, shiny and smelling wonderful following the presentation of some great extra goodie bags presented by a fellow member’s work place during dinner on day one.

With wall to wall sunshine and a very light breeze everyone set off determined to improve on their scores of the previous day. “Let battle Commence” The leading four ball battled until the last three holes when Glen Burbridge (Scotland) rose to the top and became British Amputee Champion 2006. Not bad for his first time playing with BAGA!

Our presentation ceremony started with everyone singing happy birthday to Meizelle Warrington from Canada, the competition had been so tense her husband had completely forgotten her birthday so we all decide to help him get back into favour with a song! It also helped that Ralph her husband won our overseas prize, thankfully I think he was forgiven.

Congratulations must go to all our prize winners
